Abstract

742,312. Endless scraper conveyers. MAVOR & COULSON, Ltd. Aug. 20, 1954 [Oct. 31, 1952], No. 27379/52. Class 78 (1). In a scraper conveyer used in coal mines, the frame structure, built-up of sections and movable inwards over the mine floor, comprises two side-by-side runways along which mineral-entraining components can travel as an endless series, the inner runway being a lowlevel open conveyance passage to extend along the mine floor and receive the broken down coal and the outer runway being a conveyance passage with which the inner runway passage communicates and which includes a stretch rising to a raised level station where provision is made for discharge of the coal. In the embodiment shown, the frame structure comprises end sections 10, 11 housing chain sprockets 14, 15, a plurality of sections 12 and a special section 13. Each section 12 consists of a base-plate 18 resting on the mine floor 19 and a deck plate 20 which serves as the bottom of the two runways 21, 22 along which the coal is conveyed. The side of the section adjacent the coal face 23 is provided with a kerb plate 24 over which small coal can be supplied to the runway 21. The outer runway is enclosed by a housing 25 which serves as a coal-retaining wall for the inner runway. The conveyer element comprises scrapers 26 connected to chains 27 by shackles 30 which engage in a slot 31 in the deck plate 20, the chains being accommodated in channel members 32. The section 13 is similar to the section 12 as regards the inner runway 21, but the outer runway is provided with inclines 34 leading up to a raised level section displaced laterally of the housing 25 and consisting of a platform 33 in a housing 35. A gap is formed in the platform through which coal is discharged on to a conveyer 38, the scrapers being guided across the gap by rails 37. The coal-cutting machine 45, such as is described in Specification 706,214, [Group XXI], is hauled along rails secured to the frame structure adjacent the kerb 24 and the housing 25.
