Abstract
748,592. Coal-face scraper conveyers. MAVOR & COULSON, Ltd. Jan. 7, 1952 [Feb. 13, 1951], No. 3457/51. Class 78 (1). In a coal-face scraper conveyer in which the scrapers are secured mid-way of their length to a chain which passes round terminal sprockets extending in a vertical plane, the scrapers are guided along their return run in an upside-down position through a housing arranged laterally of their conveying run by a guide on a rail extending through the housing at a level above that of the base of the conveying run. As shown, the scrapers 50, secured to a chain built up of links 56 which pass round terminal sprockets 57, in their conveying run move along a base plate 41 on a guide 46, secured to a rail 47, between a ramp 42 and a housing 43, and on their return run are supported in an upside-down position by a guide 48 on a rail 49 secured to the roof of the housing. The guide 48, which is directly below the guide 46 adjacent the terminal sprocket 57, progressively curves outwards as the guide 46 lowers until the position is reached in Fig. 2 in which it is above the guide 46. The Provisional Specification describes also arrangements in which the scrapers are turned through 45 degrees and 90 degrees respectively along the return run.
