Abstract

704,360. Endless scraper conveyers. MAVOR & COULSON, Ltd. Aug. 29, 1952 [July 23, 1951 ; Sept. 20, 1951], Nos. 17352/51 and 22046/51. Class 78 (1) A scraper conveyer comprises a frame structure formed with a passage having a housing along the outer side, a pair of parallel chains to which the scrapers are attached, pairs of sprockets for driving and guiding the chains so that they travel in a working run along said passage and in a return run, along the interior of said housing, and guides for the scrapers extending between the chains along the passage and the housing. Figs. 1, 3, 4 show the application to a coal face conveyer having a framework composed of sections 10 mounted end-to-end so that each section is free to move angularly relatively to its neighbour. Each section comprises a base plate 12 provided with a ramp 13, a housing having walls 14, 15 and a roof 16 built-up on the base plate, and a plate 17 secured to the wall of the housing to serve as a coal retaining wall. The portion of the base plate between the housing and the ramp serves as the conveyer passage along which the scrapers travel in their working run and the housing serves for the return run. Each scraper consists of a yoke-like member 21 having flat faces bearing on the plate 12 and being connected at its ends to chain links 25 by loop member 22, each member 22 being formed at its ends with spaced lugs 23 which receive between them the ends of the member 21, bolts 24 securing the lugs to the member 21. Each two members 21 are connected by two parallel lengths of chain, these chain lengths together with the members 22 forming endless members which extend around terminal sprockets, the sprockets 26 at one end being driven through gearing 27 by an electric motor 28. The scrapers are guided along their working run by a rail 19, the lower flange of which is secured to the base plate 12, and along their return run by a rail 19a having its upper flange secured to the roof 16, projections 22a on the members 22 engaging respectively bottom and top flanges on these rails. The guide rail 19a is deflected at 29 to curve outwards and upwards gradually into the housing 14, 15, 16. Figs. 5 shows an embodiment in which the chains consist of alternate horizontal and vertical links 36, 37 and the scrapers each consist of two flanged wings 30 bolted together. Each wing has a pair of projections 34 separated by a recess 35, the horizontal, link being accommodated in the recess 35, and the projection 34 of the wings engaging between the adjoining vertical links whereby the scraper is propelled forward.. In a modification of this embodiment, Fig. 7, in which the guide rail is of T-section, the openings 40 in each scraper have recesses 41 to accommodate horizontal links and above and below these recesses are the drive-transmitting projections 42, 43.
