819,260. Endless conveyers for use in mines. COWLISHAW WALKER & CO. Ltd., and SEED, E. C. Oct. 15, 1957 [Oct. 17, 1956], No. 31652/56. Class 78 (1). A gate feeder conveyer for receiving coal from a face conveyer and delivering it to a sectional gate conveyer 30 comprises an endless band 11 of the scraper chain type disposed in upper and lower runs in a framework composed of three portions, i.e. a low-level receiving portion 17, an inclined portion 19 and a high-level discharge portion 21 straddling the gate conveyer 30. To facilitate access to the conveyer 30 when the latter requires the addition of further framework sections a quick-release joint 18 is disposed between the inclined portion 19 and the high-level portion 21 so that the latter can be moved longitudinally, Fig. 5, to leave a free space for the insertion of an additional section to the gate conveyer 30, which is preferably of the belt type. The low-level portion 17 of the framework consists of upper and lower pan sections 12, 13, Fig. 9, with a guard 16 on the side opposite the face. The other portions 19, 21 of the framework consist of the upper pans 12, but with guards 16 on both sides, and a lower structure fabricated from longitudinal channels 28 and bottom plates 27. The inclined and high-level portions are supported by trestles 24 to cross-members 23 of which the channels 28 are secured, the trestles having wheels 25 running on rail tracks 26. The joint 18 consists of adjacent sections 33, 34, Fig. 10, which are provided respectively with a pair of locating pins 35 and a pair of eyes 36 engaged by the pins, and a releasable connection formed by a pair of swivel bolts 37 on the section 33 engaging pairs of abutting lugs 38 on the two sections. The bottom plates 27a of the two sections are releasably secured to the channels 28 by further swivel bolts 39. When the joint is to be separated the swivel bolts 37, 39 are released and the plates 27a removed, after which the scraper chains 15 may be disconnected on both upper and lower runs to allow the highlevel portion to be moved longitudinally to the Fig. 5 position.
