Abstract
587,904. Fuel-injection pumps. LAGONDA, Ltd., COBB, W. R., GREEN, G. W. A., and ROBINSON, A. N. Oct. 26, 1944, No. 20843. [Class 102 (i)] A delivery valve arrangement for a fuelinjection pump comprises a primary valve 6a seating on the cylinder head 1 and formed integral with a piston 6 guided in a sleeve 8 loaded by a spring 10 and formed with an annular valve seating surrounding the primary valve 6a. The spring 7 loading the valve 6a exerts a light pressure and during delivery the valve 6a is lifted and engages the upper surface of a recess 9 in the sleeve 8 and is retained there by fuel pressure during the whole of the delivery which takes place through the annular valve and the passages 18 formed in the sleeve 8. During the closing of the valve, the piston 6 moves to enlarge the volume of the delivery side and unload the delivery pipe. Several modifications are described in which the primary valve is in the form of a disc or in which the sleeve is formed in two parts.
