Abstract

586,357. Electric torches. CAMPBELL, SIR M. May 30, 1944, No. 10415. [Class 39 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In a water-tight electric torch the manually operable switch has a stem packed fluid-tight and extending laterally from the casing of the torch. The stem 126, which slides in a cup-shaped body 120 sealed by a ring 124, is sealed by a packing ring 132, e.g., of rubber, fixed to the end of that body. When the knob 128 is depressed against spring pressure the contact piece 130 engages the lamp holder and establishes the circuit. A threaded ring 136 may be screwed up or down to hold the switch in the " on " or " off " position and in the middle position shown allows for manual operation. A spare bulb 162 is held in a screw holder 176 within the battery spring 172, and a light filter and dispersion spout are also provided. A spanner 170 is attached to the torch bottom.
