A protective cover for the dry battery of an electric torch comprises an insulating tube provided at its ends with caps or flanges B, J having openings A, K and fitted internally with resilient washers D, H. The tube may be made in two parts C. G which can be connected together frictionally or by screw threads. When the battery is placed in the cover and the two parts secured together the battery is held against movement by the pressure of the washers D, H. The torch bulb makes contact with the battery through the opening A.
