Abstract
446,677. Electric - battery lamps. LUCAS, Ltd., J., and HANMER, F., Great King Street, Birmingham. Nov. 2, 1934, No. 31479. [Class 39 (ii)] In an electric-battery lamp, more particularly for use as a cycle lamp, wherein a cylindrical battery is accommodated within a body carrying the lamp bulb, a metal bulb holder j is adapted to be slipped upon and grip one end of a cylindrical battery l, which is surrounded by an insulating wrapper, the holder being such that, when thus positioned, the central contact m of the bulb i can make contact with the central electrode n of the battery. A hollow domed red glass d formed with an annular lip g is engaged by a flange f at the forward end of the casing a, the read end of the latter being screw-threaded to engage an end cap h which is screwed thereon. Alternatively these members may be connected by a pin in one engaging an inclined slot in the other. A resilient switching device is provided by forming the base of the cap h with a central metal stud or projection o which is surrounded by an annular cushion or pad p of sponge rubber which, through its pressure on the battery, presses the bulb holder j against a shoulder formed by a metal ring e clamped between the glass d and the inner face of the flange f. In the open circuit position the projection o is spaced from the metal base of the battery l, contact between those members to close the circuit being effected by further screwing the cap h upon the part a of the casing. The glass d may be faceted so that it can act as a reflector when the bulb i is not in action. A clip b is provided for securing the lamp upon a cycle.
