[Class 51 (i)] In a travelling grate stoker, plates 9 extending across and below the front portion of the grate are provided with extensions 12, 13, 14, 15 sliding in guides and movable by pinions 25 on shafts 23, 30 engaging with racks 26 so as to vary the supply of air to the front portion of the grate from the air chamber 10.
