Abstract

582,515. Mixing apparatus. JAEGER, G., and BOHMER, C. I. March 20, 1944, No. 5150. [Class 86] A mixing machine comprises a rotatable mixing drum having a common opening for loading and discharging, a non-rotatable charging hopper, a door member interposed between the hopper and the drum, a toggle mechanism acting to move the door between charging and discharging positions, and resilient means for maintaining the hopper in constant association with the door member. The rotary drum 2, Fig. 2, of a concrete mixing machine has a loading and discharging opening 3 provided with an annular door 6, carried by a sleeve 9 rotatable about a sleeve 10 on a shaft 7 which is coaxial and rotatable with the drum 2. A sleeve 20 fits loosely over the sleeve 10, bears at one end against the sleeve 9, and is secured at the other end to a hopper 13. The latter is suspended from a framework 25 by a pair of links 27 which are inclined upwardly toward the drum in both the charging and discharging positions of the hopper, so that sealing rings 14, 16 on the hopper 13 and the door 6, respectively, are brought into contact. For maintaining the seal between the rings 14, 16 a pair of springs 30 bear against brackets 32 secured to the hopper and against a plate 33 linked to the end of the sleeve 10. Connected to the sleeve 10, and acting thereon to move the door 6 towards or away from the mixing drum, is a toggle mechanism comprising a pair of links 44 connected to a collar 41 on the sleeve 10, and a pair of links 46 keyed to a transverse shaft 47, rotatable through links 54, 56 by gearing operated by a handwheel, not shown. During movement to the discharging position a cap 24a on the sleeve 10 bears against the sleeve 9 which carries the door 6, and during movement to the charging position the motion of the sleeve 10 is transmitted to the door 6 through the plate 33, springs 30, and the hopper 13. When the door 6 is closed a sealing ring 11 thereon contacts with an annular knife-edge 12, and the door rotates with the drum. Screw type mixing blades 4 cause material to be drawn into or expelled from the drum, depending on the direction of rotation thereof.
