Abstract
647,095. Mixing appliances. THORNTON, A. A. (Koehring Co.). March 31, 1948, No. 9098. [Class 86] In a mixing machine of the rotating container type the container is displaceable whilst rotating, from a low charging position to a high discharging position. In one arrangement the container 41 is mounted for axial rotation at the end of an arm 39 which is carried by a trunnion 42 rotatable in end bearings 43, 44, .whereby the container is displaceable from the position shown in full lines to the position shown in broken lines. The container is rotated for mixing by a motor 34 which drives through gear box 35 to the shaft 38 and universal coupling 48. The trunnion 42 is rotatable by gearing 56, 57 which is clutched to the engine shaft to raise the container to its discharge position, a brake band 52 being automatically released from the trunnion during this operation. The container is lowered by gravity by releasing the brake 52 without engaging the clutch. A discharge shoot 62 about which the container rotates may be carried by stationary arms 63. The apparatus is arranged for charge and discharge at the rear of a wheeled chassis 30 but in a modification the container is operated by equivalent mechanism whereby it is displaced from a lower charging position on one side of the chassis to a higher discharging position on the other side of the chassis.
