Abstract

654,119. Mixing apparatus. KOEHRING CO. May 18, 1948, No. 13431. '[Class 86] A mixing machine for concrete &c. comprises a drum 3 adapted to be rotated about its longitudinal axis and automatically and continually rocked about a transverse axis. The drum 3 is mounted in a cradle 4 and is rotated therein by means of a motor 11 and a gear ring 8 on the drum. The cradle 4 is mounted in bearings 6 on the pedestal 2 of the machine and is rocked by means of cranks 32 connected to crank wheels 30, 30a driven by a motor 27. A shaft 31 connects wheels 30, 30a and this is contained in a tube 36. The tube is connected to the scale mechanism of a suitable consistency indicator, and the resistance to the tilting drive torque is transmitted by the shaft 31 and tube 36 to the indicator. To prevent the concrete &c. leaving the drum during mixing a lid 34 is mounted on a cross-member 43 to close the drum, the lid rotating with it. The lid is actuated by an air or hydraulic cylinder 46 carried by the cradle 4 and is adapted to be moved longitudinally away from the drum a little way and then swung above the drum as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3 during charging and discharging. A brake is provided to stop the rocking motion in any position, such as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3 for discharging. U.S.A. Specification 2,271,518 is referred to.
