Oscillating batch-mixers .-The ingredients for making concrete are measured and delivered to the mixing-machine by an intermittently rotating drum divided into compartments having openings o, p, q, Fig. 5, the drum being mounted upon a shaft l in a casing a, Figs. 1 and 4, having hoppers b, b<1> divided into compartments corresponding with those in the drum. In operation, the drum is rotated by the handle v secured to the shaft until the openings are uppermost and the compartments are filled with the ingredients which by further rotation of the drum are discharged down the shoot e into the oscillating mixing tank g from which the concrete is discharged by the shoot 15 into trucks placed beneath the shoot. The edges of the opening p through which the gravel is usually charged into the drum are provided with steel bars r having bevelled edges which coact with the fixed pieces s secured to the hopper so as to cut or break up the gravel. The tank is supported freely by trunnions upon a stirrer-shaft x, which is driven by means of a pulley 3. The trunnion at one end of the tank is provided with a gear-wheel 8 which engages with another wheel 7 having a spindle 6 which is oscillated by a handle 4. The tank is supplied with water through a pipe 13, and may be locked in position by a pin 10 which engages with a stop 11 on the supporting frame of the tank.
