Abstract

714,027. Mixing appliances. AUGUST, P. Oct. 30, 1952, No. 27282/52. Class 86 In a mixer, more particularly a concrete or mortar mixer, a fixed casing 3 Fig. 1, is surmounted by a hopper 4 which is divided into compartments 6, 7, e.g. for sand and gravel by an adjustable partition 5, and has a cylindrical extension 13 which extends into a rotary mixing drum 14. A hopper 8 conta:ning, e.g. cement, communicates with the casing 13 by means of a toothed roller 23, Fig. 5 which is driven simultaneously with the drum 14. A slidably adjustable valve 27, Fig. 6 regulates the supply of material from the hopper 8 to the casing 13. To prevent material entering the part of the spaces between the teeth of the roller 23 which extend beneath the valve 27, plug members 28 carried by a ring 29 are movable along the spaces in alignment with the inner end of the slide valve 27. The drum 14 comprises a skeleton formed by rods 16a, 16b, F:g. 2, connected by a number of rings, not shown, and shell members 14a, 14b detachably secured around the skeleton. A shaft 10 carries a worm 11 below the hopper compartment 6 continuous with a worm 12 of larger diameter which extends below the compartment 7, through the casing 13 and into the drum 14 where it increases.its diameter to form a helical disc 31 secured to the rods 16a, 16b. Within the drum 14, secured to the rods 16a, 16b, is a composite multi-turn helical mixing blade extending from the disc 31 to the upper end of the drum, comprising portions 32, 33, Fig. 2, which are alternatively arranged in direct contact and.in spaced relation with the drum shell. Rotation of the drum 14 and composite worm member 11, 12, 31, 32 and 33 is imparted from a motor through a toothed rim 22 on the drum 14. The proportioned solid ingredients delivered from the casing 13 into the drum 14 are mixed first in a dry condition and thereafter with water supplied by a perforated pipe 34 and are finally discharged through the upper end of the drum 14. In a modification, the drum skeleton may be mounted on a hollow extension of the worm shaft by means of cross pieces, the hollow shaft extension being perforated for supplying water.
