Abstract

580,138. Water gas plant. BALFOUR & CO., Ltd., H., BURNS, W. L., and GIBSON, J. W. May 24, 1944, No. 10086. [Classes 55 (i) and 55 (ii)] Intermittently operable water gas plant comprises a generator 1 of'rectangular cross section, an inclined grate 4, a steam and water jacket 2 round the upper part of the generator, a gas take-off 15 connected through a wash box 18 to a carburettor casing 21 which accommodates both a steam superheater coil 27 and chequerwork 26 sprayed with a tar steam mixture, a dual air blast fitting 10 with inlets 12 close to the ash pan, and connections 13 and 14 for supplying steam below and above the grate. The take-off is so arranged as to provide no free space for degradation of hydrocarbons and serves also as a blast outlet to a stack valve 16. Steam may be passed direct from the jacket or via the superheater to the steam inlets 13, 14.
