Abstract

502,147. Water - gas generators. BALFOUR & CO.; Ltd., H. (Pintsch Akt.- Ges., J.) Sept. 9, 1937, No. 24571. [Class 55 (i)] The usual " blow " stage of a water-gas generator B, having a superimposed retort A, is followed by an up-run with steam admitted to the superheater F through an injector J which withdraws gases and vapours from the retort A to mix with the up-running steam. This stage may be preceded by a short up-run with steam only. Water-gas is withdrawn through conduit M. The up-run may be followed by a down-run by admitting the same mixture of gases from the injector J to the top of the generator at Q, water-gas being withdrawn below the grate through conduit R. The downrun may be modified by shutting off the injector and admitting steam to the superheater through pipe 0 to flow downwardly through the retort, the mixed gases then downrunning the generator as before. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 473,948.
