Producers with open hearth and annular boiler are supplied with air and steam through a perforated grid over the whole section of the fire, and also above the grid, the steam being unmixed with the air until just before entering the producer. Part of the steam generated in the annular boiler b is conveyed through a pipe f and a regulating cock j' to an opening i in the casing c, where it mixes with the incoming air, the mixture then being drawn by suction into the fuel through the perforated grid d. The remainder of the steam generated is passed by means of a regulating-cock j to the annular distributor g, from which it issues through perforations and is sucked with air into the fuel cone above the grid.
