Abstract

230,217. Whitwell, G. E. Jan. 12, 1924. Water gas plant.-A mixture of steam and gas is passed back through the superheater or superheaters and generator preferably after the usual " up-run " following the " blow." In a plant comprising a producer A, carburettor B, and superheater C, a by-pass R containing a steam jet M leads from the gas outlet pipe N' to a return main N terminating below the grate A<11> of the producer. The air main E has a branch G delivering to the top of the carburettor chamber and another branch leading to the bottom of the superheater. After the usual " blow " and " up-run," the steam is cut off from pipe I and admitted from nozzle M, and, a " back-run " takes place through the superheater and carburettor and down through the producer, the water gas passing out through the return pipe N to the wash-box, and a part of the gas being by-passed through the pipe R into circulation again through the apparatus.
