Abstract

821,467. Direct contact steam boilers. YLLA-CONTE, J. Jan. 17, 1957 [Feb. 24, 1956], No. 1846/57. Class 123(2) A mixture of steam and combustion gases for driving turbines and the like is generated by injecting gas or oil and air under pressure from a burner 7 into a refractory-lined, water-jacketed combustion chamber 1 from which the hot combustion gases pass at high pressure and velocity into a vaporizing chamber 2 consisting of a vertical cylinder. Water is sprayed downwardly into the gases from nozzles 8 and the resulting steam-combustion gas mixture passes to the turbine, &c., through an opening 5. A pipe 6 fitted with a safety valve branches from the outlet pipe whilst the chamber 2 is extended downwardly to form a sump 9 for the collection of salts derived from the water evaporation.
