Class 110(iii) [Also in Group XII] A gas turbine plant for burning peat or other similar carbonaceous material having a high moisture content has a combustion chamber, a heat exchanger for exchanging heat between the products of combustion and primary air flowing to the combustion chamber, a fuel drier, a direct connection between the drier and the gas side of the heat exchanger and a byepass around the heat exchanger for leading combustion products direct to the drier. In the gas turbine plant shown compressed air from a compressor 2 is heated in an exhaust gas heat exchanger 4 before being suplied to a combustion chamber 6 in which peat or other similar carbonaceous materials having a high moisture content are burnt. The gases from the combustion chamber pass through the turbine 8 and heat exchanger 4 to a fuel drier 10. A byepass around the heat exchanger 4, controlled by a valve 11, is provided so that the temperature of the gases entering the drier may be regulated. The application to a closed cycle gas turbine plant is also described.
