Abstract
577,067. Alloys. SUTTON, H., THOMPSON, J., and BRIMELOW, E. I. June 8, 1939, No. 16793. [Class 82 (i)] Aluminium alloys suitable for pistons, cylinders, and other parts of internal-combustion engines contain 1-10 per cent of manganese, 0.5-7 per cent of nickel, 0.2-3 per cent of copper, 0.2-2 per cent of magnesium, and 0.01-1.5 per cent of beryllium, with or without one or more of the following : 0.1-3 per cent of iron, 0.1-7 per cent of cobalt, 0.05-3 per cent of chromium, 0.05-3 per cent of vanadium, 0.01-1 per cent of niobium, 0.01-1 per cent of titanium, and 0-1 per cent of silver. Specification 498,227 is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, 0.2-2 per cent of silicon may also be present, and silver may be used either as an alternative to or in addition to beryllium.
