Abstract

575,397. Stopping pipes. KAESER, H. March 15, 1944, No. 4814. [Class 99 (ii)] The pipe stopper comprises a resilient core 6 which is expanded radially against the pipe P by rotation of a nut 18 on a stem 1 which also causes dogs 10 to engage the pipe, yielding means being provided to retract the dogs on loosening the nut. The core 6 which is made of rubber or other resilient material, and may be formed as a single piece or in several washers as shown is located between plates 5, 5<1>. The stem 1 carries :a cross head 2 having inclined faces 3 which engage two or more dogs 10 provided with outer cylindrical curved surfaces to grip the pipe. They are expanded radially against the pressure of a leaf-spring 13 and pins 25 sliding in slots 23 retain the dogs when the stopper is removed. The stem is tubular and may be connected to a pressure gauge and a pressure supply pipe by removal of a cap 35.
