Abstract

561,544. Corrugating tubes. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. May 9, 1942, No. 6306. Convention date, May 20, 1941. [Class 99 (ii)] [Also in Group V] Corrugated tubes are made by placing a plain tube 15 of rubber or vulcanizable rubber composition on a stationary mandrel 16, connming it at one end by a ring 22, and then confining another por- .tion of the tube, spaced from the ring 22, by a further ring 27, against which is placed a split clamping-sleeve 30 so that the operator, gripping the sleeve by hand pressure and moving it axially, may form the part of the tube between the rings 22, 27 into a corrugation 33, Fig. 3. Successive corrugations are formed in the same way, and the tube then vulcanized to retain its corrugated form. A horseshoe-shaped gauge may be used in spacing the rings 22, 27.
