Abstract
574,825. Manually - operated valves. FIELD AIRCRAFT INSTRUMENTS & EQUIPMENT, Ltd., MILLARD, W. A., and AUSTIN, J. Jan. 24, 1944, No. 1292. [Class 135] A valve for controlling the flow of air or gases at low positive or negative pressures comprises a loose-ball valve 5 urged to a seat 4 in the valve casing 1 by a spring 8 and movÚd off its seat by a plunger 13 moved by an actuating device through a diaphragm 17, the plunger being moved away from the ball by a spring 15. The actuating device shown comprises a threaded spindle 20 carried by a cover 19 which is screwed on to the valve casing and clamps the edge of the seating diaphragm 17. The spring 15 is located in a cavity 16 containing a piston 14 tight. on the plunger 13. The spindle 20 carries an actuating knob 21 which may have a pointer co-operating with a fixed scale. To prevent the diaphragm being overstressed, the movement of the knob 21 is limited by a pin 22 moving in an arcuate slot 23. The thread on the spindle 20 is of fine pitch to allow for minute adjustment. The ball 5 is carried in a cup 7 having a stem 9 guided in a plug 11 closing the end of the valve casing.
