Abstract
676,056. Valves. WHITE DENTAL MANUFACTURING CO., S. S. Sept. 28, 1950 [July 28, 1950], No. 18884/50. Class 135. In a diaphragm valve wherein means is provided for positively flexing the diaphragm to and from its seat, the diaphragm is uniformly tapered in thickness from the seating portion to the portion by which it is held in the valve body. In an embodiment, the diaphragm is made of polyamide resin, e.g. nylon, and is shaped as shown in Fig. 5, the projection 25 thereon being held in a knurled or grooved recess in a stud member 29. The flanged head of the latter loosely engages in a longitudinal recess in a screwed actuating stem 33 to the upper end of which an operating knob is secured by a screw 38a. The diaphragm seats on the upper end of the inlet passage 9, and, in the open position, it is supported in a recess 22 in a cover 11 to the valve casing and also in the shaped lower end of the stud 29. Also in the open position, a polyamide resin washer 39 carried on the stem 33 contacts the cap 11 and prevents leakage of fluid past the stem. A spring- pressed relief valve 43 prevents the pressure in the inlet passage 9 from becoming excessive.
