Abstract

682,839. Valves pressure-relieving devices for fluids. BASTIAN-BLESSING CO. Feb. 8, 1951, No. 3106/51. Class 135. A valve 40, suitable for controlling the flow of compressed or liquified gas from a cylinder, is formed with a head portion 37 slidable sideways into a socket in an actuating stem 29 and is provided with a rubber &c. sealing diaphragm of which the inner edge is clamped to a shoulder on the valve and the outer edge is clamped to the body portion. The outer edge of the diaphragm is clamped between an internal shoulder on the body and a bonnet 25 which screws into the body and through which the stem 29 screws when it is rotated by a handle 28. The upper edge of the valve-receiving socket formed on the stem 29 carries a washer 35 so that, when the valve is opened to the limit, the washer will contact the underside of the top of the bonnet 25 to prevent leakage of fluid should the diaphragm be ruptured. The inner edge of the diaphragm fits into a groove in the valve head and it is clamped by a ring 43 held in position by peening over the shoulder 44 of the valve head ; and the material of the diaphragm can flow into a groove and a cut-out portion 45 in the ring 43. The closure member of the valve 40 consists of a rubber &c. disc. The inlet passage 15 is provided with a spring-loaded pressure relief valve consisting of a closure member 9B of fluted bar material holding a sealing disc 9C, and the central part 9D of the closure member may consist of a plug of fusible material. A perforated cap 9F can be screwed in to adjust the loading of the spring 9E, and it is held in adjusted position by upsetting a portion 91 of the cap into a recess in the boss on to which the cap screws.
