Abstract

762,380. Manually-actuated valves. PEGLERS, Ltd. Dec. 10, 1954 [Dec. 16, 1953], No. 35042/53. Class 135. In a tap or valve of the kind having a valve member operable by a manually-actuated valve spindle which is movable within a detachable cover fitted to the valve body and extends through a guide member associated with the cover and an annular sealing ring between the spindle and the guide member to replace the usual stuffing-box, the guide member is formed as an integral part of the detachable cover. In one embodiment, Fig. 1 (Prov.), a pillar tap 10 having a valve jumper 24, and a screwactuated spindle 18, the bore 20 of a detachable cover 17 forms a guide member which cooperates with a sealing ring 22 mounted in an annular groove 23 in the valve spindle. Instead of being mounted in the spindle groove, the ring may be mounted in an annular groove in the bore 20. In another embodiment, Fig. 1 (Comp.), a tap 30, having a valve member 40 urged away from its seat 39 on the depression of a knob 43 against a spring 44, has an extension 35 of a detachable cover 32 formed with a guide bore 36 having an annular recess 46 in which is mounted a sealing ring 45.
