Abstract
707,970. Pressure-regulating valves. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT. Ltd. March 20. 1951 [March 22, 1950], No. 7128/50. Class 135 A pressure reducing valve comprises a casing with inlet and outlet passages 11, 14, respectively, a loose ball or poppet valve 7 urged towards the closed position by a spring 8, and a piston, &c. 17 which is subject to the outlet pressure to allow the valve to close but is loaded by a spring 21 tending to open the valve against the fluid flow, the spring 21 being mounted on the piston rod between an adjustable abutment 20 and the piston so that the spacing of the valve from its seat can be adjusted without varying the loading exerted by spring 21. The piston contacts the ball through the medium of a tappet 18. The stem of the piston slides through the abutment 20 which screws into the valve casing, and the abutment and piston are forced apart by the spring 21 to the distance allowed by the adjusting nut 23, this adjustment of spring 21 determining the pressure to be maintained by the valve. Adjusting the position of the abutment 20 in the casing varies the sensitivity of the valve. The cap is locked in position by a nut 25 and is covered by a screwed cap 27. The passage 14 leads into several outlets 15.
