Abstract

723,793. Valves. SIGMA INSTRUMENT CO., Ltd. Dec. 22, 1952 [Dec. 21, 1951], No. 30033/51. Class 135. A pressure regulator comprises a valve member 8 actuated by a piston 3 sealed by a tubular diaphragm 15, an adjustable, restricted connection 20, 22 from the outlet 11 to a chamber 18 below the piston, and an adjustable, restricted connection 24, 27 from the chamber 18 to atmosphere. The restriction 20, 22 prevents hunting and the restriction 24, 27 allows the controlled pressure to be varied to a limited degree without altering the value of a loading weight 7. Instead of the restriction 20, 22, an oil dashpot may be provided in a chamber 2. In a modification, the connection from the outlet to the chamber 18 is taken from the remote end of an outlet pipe. In a further modification, the weight acts through a lever whereby it tends to close the valve, thus enabling the regulator to control sub-atmospheric pressures. According to the Provisional Specification a double-beat valve may be used.
