733,575. Fluid-pressure servomotors; valves. SAMSON APPARATEBAU AKT.-GES. March 31, 1953 [April 5, 1952], No. 8949/53. Class 135. Relay means for converting a variable force into a hydraulic or pneumatic pressure which may actuate an indicator, recorder or valve comprises valve members 11, 12 carried by a U- shaped arm 13, Fig. 1, a T-shaped arm (not shown), or a straight arm 20, Fig. 4, and urged towards inlet and outlet nozzles 9, 10 by a spring 16 or 21. The arm 13 or 20 is rocked about one nozzle to open the other by a spring-link connection 19 with a rod 4, 5 to which the variable force is applied. The resultant fluid pressure in the chamber 6 of the relay acts on a diaphragm 3 in opposition to the force on the rod 4, 5 and passes to the controlled valve or indicator &c. via a pipe 25. The leverage on the arms 13, 20 may be varied by altering the length of members 18. Lateral displacement with respect to the nozzles 9, 10 of the arm 13 is prevented by a leaf spring 17. The rod 4, 5 may be connected to a float to respond to liquid level, to a differential-pressure responsive diaphragm connected to two points of a Venturi, or to a pressure or temperature-responsive bellows.
