Abstract
662,741. Pressure-regulating valves. EVERED & CO., Ltd., and PINKESS, L. H. Oct. 5, 1949 [Oct. 6, 1948] No. 26020/48 Class 135 In a pressure governor for insertion in a gas line and of the kind comprising a housing furnished at its ends with inlet and outlet passages and provided interiorly with a dividing wall parallel to the axis of the body and with a diaphragm-controlled valve situated in an aperture in the wall, the forces due to fluid pressure on the diaphragm and to the thrust of a loading spring on the valve act in contrary direction at right angles to the axis of the housing and in spaced apart relationship on the axis of the valve so that any tilting of the latter axis induces a stabilising couple acting to restore the axis to its normal position. In an embodiment, a diaphragm 18 carries a valve 19 controlling a port in a partition 14e situated in a conduit between an inlet 14a and an outlet 14b. The conduit is apertured on opposite sides and the apertures are closed by covers 15, 16 serving, respectively, as a guiding means for a projection 19c on the valve and as an abutment for the outer end of the valve loading spring 20. The latter seats at its inner end on a screwed abutment adjustable in position in the tubular extension 19a of the valve so as to vary the loading on the valve. The diaphragm is clamped between an out-turned flange at the end of tube 19a and a flanged bush 21 which screws into the end of the tube. In a modification, the inner end of spring 20 seats against the end of the tube 19a and its outer end seats against an adjustable plug screwed into an inwardly-directed extension on cover 16. The outer end of this extension is closed by a further screwed plug.
