Abstract
1,004,240. Valves. MASTER PNEUMATIC INCORPORATED. Feb. 11, 1964 [March 12, 1963], No. 5597/64. Heading F2V. A pressure regulator comprises an inlet 18 and outlet 20 connected by a passageway which can be opened or closed by a valve member 52, a diaphragm 40 closing a chamber 56 which is connected with the outlet 20 through a port 58, ports 86 in the member 52 exposing the underside of that member to downstream pressure to provide a force urging the member to the closed position, which force is augmented by a spring 88, a spindle 66 connecting the valve member 52 with the diaphragm 40 to cause the member 52 to open in response to a decrease in pressure in the chamber 56, and a cup 90 having a flat exterior surface 96 which engages a flat surface 98 in a recess in a body 12, and a clearance 100 allows the cup 90 to move laterally relative to the axis of the spindle 66 to provide proper longitudinal alignment of the valve member 52 and spindle 66 relative to the components with which they co-operate. The valve member 52 moves axially in the cup 90 and is sealed by an O-ring 94. A bore 62 through the diaphragm 40, is closed by an end 70 of the spindle 66 but an increase of pressure in the outlet 20 and chamber 56 forces the diaphragm 40 and bore 62 away from the end 70, against the action of a spring 28 to allow the pressure to exhaust through the bore 64 in the casing 26. The compression of spring 28 can be adjusted by a knob 36 and screw 34. A pressure gauge 22 is connected with the outlet 20.
