Abstract

571,197. Pipe clamps. LEIMBACHER, R. Jan. 4, 1944, No. 138. [Class 61 (ii)] A lever-operated pipe vice comprises lower and upper hollow jaw members 1, 2, the former of which has a projecting bracket for bolting to the bench, and which jaw members house polygonal jaws 20 provided with different sized gripping grooves 21 on their faces and adapted to be angularly adjustable about central support pins 23. The jaw members 1, 2 are pivoted together on a bolt 5 and between two lugs on the opposite side of the member 1 is mounted a shaft 8 with flats 9 engaged by the forked end of a clamping lever 10, the shaft 8 housing at the extreme ends eccentric pins 13 engaging holes in the forked end of a pivoted connecting member 12 adapted to engage between lugs 18 on the upper jaw member 2. After adjustment of the jaw blocks the jaw members 1, 2 are closed on the pipe and the bolt 17 swung into engagement, the nut 19 being tightened ; final - gripping pressure is then applied by swinging the lever 10 downwardly, the lever being locked by a pawl 14 pivoted on the member 12.
