[Class 44] A clamp, particularly for supporting an electric hand lamp, has two complemental 'clamping members each having a jaw, one of which is adjustable relative to the member, the coupling means between the clamping member allowing a primary adjustment of the jaws, the final setting being obtained by a secondary adjustment of the jaw relative to its clamping member after the jaws have been brought into contact with the object to be clamped. In one form, a jaw 1, Fig. 1, has a handle 2 and a tube 3 extending at right angles carrying the lamp 22 at one end and a movable block 4 at the other. A clamping arm 6 having a handle 7 is pivoted to the block at 5. The block 4 is secured in position after the primary adjustment by putting pressure on a dolly 11 sliding inside the tube by means of screw 13 acting through a spring 12. The secondary adjustment is made by sideways displacement of the handle 7 causing the arm 6 to press on a resilient pivoted jaw member 15. The arm is retained in the adjusted position by a pawl 18 engaging a ratchet 17 on the block. The lamp is carried on an arm provided with a universal joint 23 comprising two pivots at rightangles. In a modification, the bar 6 and jaw 15 are pivoted to a lug extending through a slot in the wall of the tube 3 from the dolly 11. The pawl 18 co-operates with a series of slots cut in the wall of the tube. In another form, Fig. 5, the movable jaw 32 is carried on a block 31 slidable on a toothed bar 30. The jaw is carried by a pin and slot connection and is biased away from the other jaw. An L-shaped lever 37 is adapted to engage a pawl 35 to secure the block after the primary adjustment and to put pressure on the arm 32 to make the secondary adjustment. In a modification the bar 30 carries ratchet teeth and is engaged by two spring loaded pivoted pawls which are inter-connected so that after the primary adjustment has been made a lever is moved to lock the block by one pawl and swing the movable jaw to make the secondary adjustment which is then retained by the second pawl.
