In a toggle-operated hand vice or clamp comprising a pair of pivoted arms 1, 2 carrying jaws A, B which are adjustable by a screw K pivotally mounted on the arm 2, clamping pressure is applied by a cam lever 3 pivoted at d to the lever 1 and at h to the curved arm of a link J which is tapped to receive the screw. A transverse pivot pin e carried by the screw K engages in a recess E in the lever 2. On depressing the lever 3 pivots d, e and h are brought into alignment and the clamp is locked, the pivot d being received in a recess m in the link J. The arms are urged apart by a spring R.
