Abstract

570,644. Charge - forming devices. CAMPBELL, G. S., and WOODMAN, F. E. Jan. 11, 1944, No. 545. [Class 7 (ii)] An oil separator, as described in Specification 561,033, and comprising an exhaust chamber into which the oil is drawn by engine suction until a float therein closes a valve in the suction pipe, the vapour pressure thus developed foreing the oil back to the sump and the separated fuel vapour escaping through the suction pipe to the inductionmanifold, is provided with means for attaching a filter to the oil inlet to the float chamber. Exhaust gases traversing a chamber a heat by conduction a float chamber b into which oil is drawn by the suction in the inlet manifold acting through a passage c<2> adapted to be closed by a valve f attached to a float e. The oil is drawn from the sump past a non-return valve h<4> in a fitting h and up a stand pipe k into a filter chamber i screwed at its lower end into the fitting h which communicates with the float chamber b through a passage g adapted to direct the oil against the hottest part of the chamber. A snift valve in the top of the float chamber may ensure a rapid breaking of the vacuum when the valve # closes.
