[Class 7 (:ii)] A device to prevent oil dripping out of the exhaust pipe when the engine stops running consists of a chamber 2 opening into the atmosphere through a short vertical conduit 3 in its bottom wall 6, the inner end of which is located above the level of the wall 6. A sharp edge 7 prevents oil escaping by capillary action. On stopping, oil which drips from pipe 1 is trapped in the chamber, but on restarting it is scavenged by the exhaust gases. The device may be combined with a silencer, the upper walls of the chamber being then lined with sound absorbing material.
