Abstract
394,038. Two-stroke-cycle engines. RUSSELL, W. L., 21, Brookvale Avenue, Belfast. Jan. 9, 1932, No. 686. [Classes 7 (iii) and 7 (vi).] Liquid fuel is supplied to a vaporizing-chamber 1 heated by exhaust gases traversing a jacket 1d and the vapour after traversing a pipe 1c enters the cylinder of a twostroke-cycle engine through an engine-operated valve 2 after the exhaust port is closed, and before the compression pressure is high. The valve 2 may be located in the cylinder wall so that its outlet is covered by the piston at the end of the compression stroke. At starting the chamber 1 may be electrically heated and the engine may be supplied with light fuel from a carburetter. Valves.-A flexible diaphragm may be provided on the stem of the valve 2 to prevent leakage of the compressed vapour, or, as shown in Fig. 3, a diaphragm 6 may act as the fulcrum of a valve operating lever 5 which acts on the valve stem 2.
