Abstract

566,689. Fusible cut-outs. BESWICK, K. E. Jan. 5, 1944, No. 212. [Class 38 (i)] A cartridge fuse comprises a fuse element made up of several wire strands 1, 2, 7, held together at their ends but spaced apart at the point where fusion occurs by passing them through or round a disc or washer 8 of asbestos &c., flanked by copper discs 10 to dissipate heat. The disc 8 may be set in an asbestos &c. sleeve 9 or may fit the interior of the cartridge 6. A main fuse strand 7 of larger gauge than the others may be arranged axially and the other strands in annular rows of holes or in slots in the edge of the disc 8. The ends of the strands are soldered to caps 5 and may be twisted together or enclosed in metal sheaths 4 secured as described in Specifications 555,767, 555,768, 555,769 and 555,951. Instead of or in addition to the metal sheaths, insulating sleeves or beads may be used.
