Abstract

337,386. Cox, C. W. July 29, 1929. Fusible cut-outs. - In a cartridge type fuse two refractory end pieces A, having holes a<1> through which the fuse passes, are separated by a chamber K containing a heat-absorbing metallic element in the form of discs G having centre openings through which the fuse passes, and a filling powder such as marble dust; the outsides of the discs G make contact with a metal tube B which connects the end pieces A. Terminal rings D are attached to the outer faces of the end pieces A, and are externally threaded to receive terminal fittings E, gastight joints being made. The fuse may be enclosed in an insulating shell consisting of a cylindrical part C and end caps H, the end caps being mounted on the terminals E. Instead of the heat-absorbing discs G a coil of metal gauze may be used. For heavy current work several fusible elements F may be used, and in a modification the ends A have multiple bores.
