Abstract

Fusible cut-outs.- A powder - filled cartridge fuse A is fitted with metal end caps each consisting of a thimble a<1> having a slot in its end through which project the ends C of the fusible strips and a cap B, Fig. 1A, split to make it resilient, that is pushed on over the turned back strips C. Contact-pieces D, Fig. 4, formed of strips encircle the caps B and project through the slots e<3> in the insulating carrier e<1> that encloses the cartridge. Screw caps e<6> close the ends of the carrier. The contacts D are relatively close together and engage contacts f<1>, Fig. 7, mounted in recesses f<2> in a base f, one being connected to a bus-bar f<4> and the other to a terminal f<6>. In order to adapt the fuse carrier for use with a base such as that described in Specification 22575/13 in which the contacts are arranged side by side, Fig. 16 (not shown), the contact members G, Fig. 10, are shaped to provide central contacts g<1>, longitudinal shanks g<5> extending in oblique slots in the carrier K, and rings g<2> encircling the caps B of the cartridge A. According to the Provisional Specification lateral openings in the cap coinciding with openings in the carrier permit the escape of gases from the cartridge.
