Abstract

668,898. Fusible cut-outs. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd., and HILYER, F. G. Dec. 8, 1950 [Dec. 9, 1949], No. 31661/49. Class 38 (i). The end contacts 7 of a cartridge fuse comprise feet 8 which are connected on one side to the fusible elements 3 and on the other to the end wall 9 of the end caps by soldering, and the caps have slots 11 through which the contacts 7 project. Preferably, the cartridge fuse has a ceramic body 1 provided with passages 2 (which may have plugs 5) for the fusible elements connected to terminal pieces 6 bent over the body ends. Each end cap has a skirt 10 tightly fitting on the body and has raised arcuate portions 15 with a depressed intermediate portion 16 defining two slots 11 whereas in a modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), the contacts 7 are superimposed and only one slot 11 is required. The contacts 7 may be provided with cut-away portions near their feet 8, Fig. 4 (not shown). The soldering is performed preferably electrically and the interstices 14 between the end caps and the feet 8 may serve as solder reservoirs. The surfaces 12, 13 of the feet are coated with solder.
