Abstract

565,999. Burners. PULITZER, H. F., and WOODWARD, G. E. June 3, 1943, No. 8941. [Class 75 (i)] [Also in Groups XXVII and XXIX] An atomizing nozzle com. prises a member 11 having ducts 16 and aj tapering spigot 14, the free end of which is tightly engaged by the apertured central part 17 of a spring cap 12, the periphery of which is secured in a fluid-tight manner with the member 11 preferably by a screwed cap 13, an annular space 18 being left between the cap 12 and the base of the spigot into which the liquid under pressure is conveyed by the ducts 16. The spring cap 12 is dished on its under surface and formed as shown on its outer surface. A dished part 15 is provided in the member 11 and the cap 13 clamps the spring cap 12 and member 11 to the liquid-conveying pipe 10. In operation, the liquid under pressure forces the spring cap away from the end of the spigot, leaving a minute annular opening for atomizing the liquid. The atomizing nozzle may be used as an injection nozzle for internal-combustion engines, as an oil burner, as an injection carburetter, for atomizing liquid foods and the production of artificial fibres and as a safety valve.
