No. 382,966 Claims priority, application Netherlands, July 25, 1963, 295,758 Claims. (Cl. 239-534) The invention relates to a nozzle for spouting away deposited substances from surfaces and Walls. When such nozzles are arranged in a space into which liquids or gases contaminated with solid particles are introduced, the hupurities are deposited on the walls of the space, in which the nozzles are located, so that also the outflow opening of the nozzles will completely or partly be clogged on the long run and therefore the nozzles will form no powerful jet or not jet at all in said space when periodically spouting away the substances deposited on the walls.
The invention has for its object to make in a simple manner such a provision at the nozzle that the above mentioned drawback is removed. According to the invention a strip of elastic material at its one edge is secured at the outlet mouth of the nozzle and extends freely over the outflow opening or openings in such a manner that the strip closes said opening or openings but is forced away from the opening by the outflowing jet.
With a suitable embodiment of the nozzle according to the invention the nozzle is provided with two outflow openings in the bottom of a trough-shaped recess at the mouth of the nozzle and the elastic strip is lying against the side walls and the bottom of said recess, and being secured at said bottom. In order to have the outflowing jets diverging the side walls of the recess may diverge outwards.
The invention will further be described with reference to the drawing illustrating an embodiment of the nozzle according to the invention destined for spouting away the filter cakes from disc-shaped filter elements of a rotating filter.

The body 1 of the nozzle has a threaded end 2 and the outflow mouth is provided with a trough-shaped recess having two openings 4 in its bottom 3. A strip 5 of rubber or other elastic material is secured at the bottom 3 by means of two screws 7 through the intermediary of a filling piece 6. Said filling piece 6 in its centre at the outflow openings 4 has a narrow-bar-shaped portion 8, so that the openings 4 are left unobstructed. When admit- 3,253,789 Patented May 31, 1966 ting pressure liquid to the nozzle the portions of the elastic strip lying against the side walls of the recess are locally urged away from said walls by the pressure of the liquid, as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, so that the liquid flows out in two solid jets. As the side walls of the recess in the mouth of the nozzle are diverging outwards the outflowing jets will also diverge. Thereby the nozzle is adapted for simultaneously spouting away the filter cakes from the opposed sides of two adjacent filter discs 9 as shown in FIG. 5. The nozzles 1 in said embodiment are screwed in the wall of a channel 10 for the pressure liquid formed at the casing of the filter.
What I claim is:
1. Anozzle for spouting away deposited substances from surfaces and walls, comprising a body having a tubular bottom portion closed at its top by an upper portion which is elongated in a direction transverse to the axis of said bottom portion and extends beyond opposite sides thereof, said upper portion having an elongated troughlike channel therein opening through its top to form a nozzle mouth, at least one opening through a wall of said channel communicating with the bore of said tubular bottom portion, and an elongated strip of elastic material lying longitudinally and against the bottom of said channel in such a manner that a free portion of the strip covers but is movable away from said opening by the force of a jet of pressure liquid therethrough to permit emergence of the jet through said mouth.

A nozzle as claimed in claim 1 wherein two of said openings are provided through the bottom of said channel at its juncture with opposite side Walls, said elastic strip lying against the side and bottom walls of the chan nel and being secured at its ends to the bottom wall along the axis of the channel.
3. A nozzle as claimed in claim 2 wherein the side walls of said channel diverge upwardly and outwardly.
4. A nozzle as claimed in claim 2 wherein said elongated channel occupies the entire length of said upper portion, and a filler block is seated on said elastic strip in the channel, said filler block having a narrowed central portion adjacent said openings and fastening means extending through the end portions of the filler block and the elastic strip into the bottom wall of the channel.
5. A nozzle as claimed in claim 2 wherein said tubular bottom portion is externally threaded for securing the nozzle in a pressure liquid duct.

Claims (1)
1. A NOZZLE FOR SPOUTING AWAY DEPOSITED SUBSTANCES FROM SURFACESA AND WALLS, COMPRISING A BODY HAVING A TUBULAR BOTTOM PORTION CLOSED AT ITS TOP BY AN UPPER PORTION WHICH IS ELONGATED IN A DIRECTION TRANSVERSE TO THE AXIS OF SAID BOTTOM PORTION AND EXTENDS BEYOND OPPOSITE SIDES THEREOF, SAID UPPER PORTION HAVING AN ELONGATED TROUGHLIKE CHANNEL THEREIN OPENING THROUGH ITS TOP TO FORM A NOZZLE MOUTH, AT LEAST ONE OPENING THROUGH A WALL OF SAID CHANNEL COMMUNICATING WITH THE BORE OF SAID TUBULAR BOTTOM PORTION, AND AN ELONGATED STRIP OF ELASTIC MATERIAL LYING LONGITUDINALLY AND AGAINST THE BOTTOM OF SAID CHANNEL IN SUCH A MANNER THAT A FREE PORTION OF THE STRIP COVERS BUT IS MOVABLE AWAY FROM SAID OPENING BY THE FORCE OF A JET OF PRESSURE LIQUID THERETHROUGH TO PERMIT EMERGENCE OF THE JET THROUGH SAID MOUTH.
