Abstract
562,713. Driving magnetos. TRIGGS, W. W. (Seymour Corporation of Delaware). June 30, 1942, No. 9020. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXVII] A magneto is driven through a gear transmission housed in a casing which is demountably attached to the magneto casing and has openings at opposite sides to admit the shaft of the magneto and the driving shaft respectively. The casing may also be adapted for mounting the magneto on the engine with which it is associated, preferably with cushioning means to absorb vibra- .tion. The transmission gear which is shown as comprising a pinion 25, planet wheels 17 and a stationary internal gear 15, is housed in the casing consisting of portions 10a, 100 secured to the magneto casing 10 by bolts 101. The outer side of the casing is closed by a plate 102, which has a grooved flange 105 coacting with an internal flange on the part 100 to retain a rubber &c. cushion. The plate 102 has lugs for attachment to the engine casing. The pinion 25 is carried by a sleeve 26 with a part 27 projecting outside the casing for coupling to the driving member. The magneto spindle 11 passes into the bearings 30 mounted in the sleeve 26, and is keyed to the boss 19 of a spider 18 carrying the planet wheels. The stationary gear 15 may be adjusted for timing by a bevel pinion 35 or by a friction band and lever, Fig. 3 (not shown).
