Abstract

1,157,250. Power take-off. H. D. SWAINE. 5 Dec., 1968, No. 57733/68. Heading B7H. An arrangement for taking off power from the differential gear of a motor vehicle comprises a housing 1 adapted to replace the normal coverplate of the differential gear housing and mounting a shaft 3 in a bearing 4. In use, a pinion 2 upon the shaft 3 meshes with the crown-wheel 6 of the differential gear. A oneway clutch 7 is connected to a flange 5 on the shaft 3, and a flywheel 9 is connected to a flange 8 on the clutch. Means, which may be a pulley 10, a sprocket for a chain drive, or a toothed ring attached to its rim, are provided on the flywheel for driving auxiliary apparatus, e.g. an electricity generator.
