972,334. Motor vehicle driving gear. WIHAG WESTF. INDUSTRIE-HANDELSGES m.b.H. April 4, 1962 [April 4, 1961], No. 12955/62. Heading B7H. A wheel 14 is driven through epicyclic gearing and a universal joint 1 from an axle drive-shaft. The universal joint 1 drives a floating axle 3 provided with gear teeth 4 which mesh with intermediate gears 5 mounted on a carrier which comprises end-plates 8<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>11</SP> is connected to the driving axle casing and carries the bearings 11 for floating axle 3, the gears 5 also meshing with an outer ring gear 12 which is mounted on the intermediate gear carrier as by ball-bearings 16, and carries the brake drum 15 and wheel rim 14. The plates 8<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>11</SP> of the carrier are connected by bolts 9 and spaced by sleeves 10.
