Abstract
977,619. Vehicle gearing arrangements. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. May 26, 1961 [June 21, 1960], No. 19137/61. Heading B7H. An engine-propulsion unit for a vehicle in which the engine is a rotary engine having an overhung mounting comprises a clutch and a change-speed gear, the rotor 1, being fixed upon the driving shaft 3 which is mounted in bearings 6 and 14, one 6 being disposed in the immediate proximity of the rotor and the other, a roller bearing 14, being mounted between the clutch B, and the gear-box C. The engine A comprises a front plate 7, a stator 4, and a rear end-plate 5 formed integral with the clutch casing. A flywheel 9, keyed to the driving shaft 3, and carrying a weight 10 for partially balancing the rotor 1, conventionally mounts the clutch B, the disc 26 of which is mounted on a shaft 12 rotating freely on the extension 11 of the driving shaft 3 by means of a ring 3 and the bearing 14. The shaft 12 is centred by a bearing 16 and is integral with the primary shaft 18 of the gear-box which is supported by a bearing 19 and is concentric with, and mounted by a roller bearing upon, an extension 17 of the drive shaft to which is attached a pulley 22 for driving auxiliaries and which carries a second rotorbalancing weight. The gear-box also comprises a secondary shaft, indicated by the line 23, which may carry a worm 24 for driving a pinion 25 from which the vehicle wheels are driven or alternatively a bevel wheel forming part of a bevel gear drive to the wheels.
