883,038. Driving auxiliary parts. CRANE CARRIER CORPORATION. July 7, 1959, No. 23245/59. Class 79(2). A motor vehicle has a power take-off adapter housing 18 mounted between an engine 12 and a change-speed gear. a power take-off shaft 118 projecting from the housing 18 and connected by drive means 72, 102 and 126 to a shaft 70 between the e n g i n e and change-speed gear, and a plate 32 releasably secured to the housing to form a liquid-tight compartment 20. The latter has filler plugs 152 for lubricating oil and a number of plugs 150 to permit the compartment to be drained when the housing 18 is mounted in an inclined position on the housing 142 of the engine 12. Bolts 144 connect the housing 142 -with the plate 32 which has twice as many bolt holes 138 as the housing 142 to provide an increased number of angular positions in which the housing 18 may be secured. The drive means 72, 102 and 126 consist of splash or pressurelubricated .toothed-gears splined to shafts in anti-friction bearings. The shaft 70 has a snap ring 74 to locate the gear 72 and is splined to a plate 156 bolted to the engine flywheel 160, the clutch assembly for the transmission being bolted to -a second flywheel 168. A clutch may be provided in the drive to the power take-off.
