Abstract
562,396. Telephone transmission systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 28, 1942, No. 18389. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1941. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] In a negative feedback amplifier the output impedance is maintained unaffected by the feedback by arranging a resistance common to the anode and grid circuits, with a second resistance in the grid circuit only, and a third resistance connected between the grid and anode, so proportioned that the first resistance is substantially equal to the ratio of the product of the second resistance and the internal resistance between the anode and cathode to the third resistance. Fig. 2 shows an amplifier 26 with a resistance 40 common to the input and output circuits and an input resistance 43 and a feedback resistance 45, the resistance 40 having a value equal to the ratio of the product of the effective input resistance 43 and the internal valve resistance to the resistance 45. A mathematical analysis of the circuit is given in the Specification, and an equation is' given for determining the resistance, taking into account the valve impedance and the amplification factor of the valve. Fig. 1 shows the application of the invention to microphone amplifiers 5-8 feeding the modulation apparatus 20 of a broadcast transmitter so that the attenuators 9-12 and 19 are rendered independent of one another. Resistances 13-17 provide appropriate impedance matching networks.
